Jane’s Walk Vision 
Walkable neighbourhoods, urban literacy, cities planned for and by people.

Jane’s Walk is a series of free neighbourhood walking tours that helps put people in touch with their environment and with each other, by bridging social and geographic gaps and creating a space for cities to discover themselves. Since its inception in 2007, Jane’s Walk has happened in cities across North America, and is quickly expanding internationally. In 2009 Jane’s Walks were held in 46 cities with a total of 315 walks offered. In 2010 there are 65 cities with over 370 tours on offer. All Jane’s Walk tours are given and taken for free.

A Blossoming Gift to Trinity Bellwoods Park

More than four decades ago, two thousand Sakura, or Japanese Yoshino Cherry trees, were planted in High Park - a gift from the citizens of Tokyo to Torontonians. Now, the Consulate General of Japan accompanied with the efforts of the Japanese - Canadian community (including Mr. James Matsumoto) and myself as continuing tree advocate, have once again brought the trees cloud of pink blossoms to Trinity Bellwoods Park. Not only do the Sakura Trees symbolize the friendship between Canada and Japan, they build on the longstanding Japanese cultural tradition of hanami, or “flower watching.”  

I am pleased to have suggested the bringing of these beautiful flowering trees to Trinity Bellwoods Park. City of Toronto Parks and Forestry Staff arranged the highly sensitive timing of planting the trees and will ensure they are well protected and cared for in their first year. A top layer of mulch has been added around the trees, as well as wooden stakes and ties until they are more secure. The Friends of Trinity Belwoods Park were consulted and have also “adopted” some of the trees to give them attention as they grow into maturity.  

This is a wonderful gift to the community! It is another example of how by working together, we can make Toronto an even better place to live, work, and play.

Trinity Bellwoods Farmers Market: begins May 11

Trinity Bellwoods Farmers Market begins it's fourth season on TUESDAY MAY 11th, 2010, 3pm to 7pm.  And every Tuesday after that till Oct. 26th.   Located at Dundas W and Shaw in the quiet green space surrounding the Simon Bolivar statue and Portuguese Monuments. Please walk, bike, TTC to get there and bring your own re-useable shopping bags.  

The market mandate is to support and promote local and urban sustainable agriculture.  To educate the community in the foods they eat, the source in which it comes and how it is grown and/or prepared.  To increase community access to seasonal healthy, local organically grown produce, meats and dairy.
