IRENE AVENUE PARKETTE ENHANCEMENTS

As you know, Irene Parkette (north of Bloor Street West and west of Shaw Street) was revitalized a couple of years ago through the hard work and dedication of many neighbours, led by the Christie Ossington Residents Association.  Irene Parkette went from being a park known for anti-social behaviour to an active community and family gathering spot.  Now, there’s more good news for the community!  Irene Parkette has been chosen to receive more financial support under the new Federal and Provincial infrastructure funding programs for a playground upgrade.

DUNDAS-MANNING & CONCORD GARDENS

The Dundas-Manning Community Garden Redevelopment – a project two years in the making – has been successfully realized. Local residents donated their architectural and landscaping expertise to enhance this nine year old garden.  Formerly a littered and barren corner along Dundas Street West, the garden will be further upgraded and made slightly larger, a water connection added, drought-tolerant shrubs and perennial planted, a new trellis structure and shaded seating added to create a great example of our City’s Clean and Beautiful Gardens.

The Bloor–Concord Community Garden, planned and maintained by the West End Flower Fairies also received an upgrade. Once a “container” garden, the pavement below has been removed and curbs installed to better contain the garden’s soil. As well, a water spout was installed to facilitate the watering of the flowers!
