[bounded by Bathurst St, Queen St W, Dovercourt Rd and the Rail Corridor]
This beautiful community is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Toronto. It features a beautiful collection of historic homes and buildings. The neighbourhood enjoys a close proximity to vibrant commercial strips like King and Queen Streets West while still retaining a quiet, residential feel that is unique in the hustle of urban life. Local features include Stanley Park and the Niagara Neighbourhood Community Centre.
We can be proud of a number of recent accomplishments in this area. By introducing a green boulevard on Wellington Street at Strachan Avenue, we built on the environmental sensibility already flourishing in the community.
I facilitated a neighbourhood plan and revisions to its zoning bylaws to protect the area from excessive development pressures. I fought to have a sound barrier built around the City yard on the south side of Wellington Street just west of Walnut Avenue, and introduced into it ivy and an irrigation system that will help trees and vegetation grow on and around the buffer.
I am excited to be working with the community on an upcoming $500,000 rejuvenation of Stanley Park and on the creation of a successful off-leash area for dogs. Please visit http://stanleyparktoronto.ca for more details on the Park’s revitalization. Planting trees in one of the City’s first continuous trenches along King Street West between Niagara Street and Strachan Avenue is another local area project of which I am very proud.
