Population increases created by intensification in the Fort York Neighbourhood, Liberty Village and King West Village have added significant pressure on the King Street West street car line. It is now Toronto’s busiest line.
I am confident that a devoted Light Rail Train (LRT) connecting Etobicoke to Union Station via Exhibition Place and the existing Harbourfront LRT will greatly reduce the burden currently being carried by the King Street streetcar. To this end, I have successfully convinced the TTC to begin the process of expanding the Harbourfront route westward from Exhibition place to Roncesvalles Avenue as an important part of the new Transit City strategy. An Environmental Assessment is currently underway for this phased expansion.
