Trees

In 2000, identifying the pressing need to increase Toronto’s tree canopy, I persuaded Toronto Council to establish the Tree Advocacy Planting Program.  In a public/private partnership, the program contributes a living legacy of trees for future generations along City streets, arterial roads, neighbourhood parks and ravines.  Since its inception, the Tree Advocacy Planting Program has planted over 500,000 trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants in over 300 locations across Toronto.

Trees Across Toronto is the signature event of the City of Toronto’s Tree Advocacy Planting Program.  And 2009 marks its sixth annual city-wide tree planting event.

Stemming from my work with the urban forestry, I founded the Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation in 2002.  This non-profit organization works in partnership with the City of Toronto’s Parks and Recreation Division to enhance our parks system.
